THE FRIENDS – KEIO UNIVERSITY
When we went to the Keio University, we meet lots of Japanese friends. After we took some nice pictures in front of the college, we were introduced to the building that the other students waited for us. It was just a small class room with the wooden desks and chairs.
Professors, Dr. C and a professor of Keio introduced themselves and explained about their schools. And After all that, it was time for the presentation battle. (JK)

Mitsu, one of the students from Keio, prepared the presentation about One-Segment Mobile broadcasting. It was the brand new term and information for me, but easy to understand. Everybody caught the concept of the One-Segment Mobile broadcasting very quickly.
Our representative, the youngest and brightest G. Mike prepared the presentation about the three popular markets in the US. He chose the Second Life for the field of game technology, YouTube for the field of UCC, and e-bay for the field of E-commerce.
Students of Keio seemed quite interesting at some point. While G. Mike was introducing one by one, some hands were raised up and asked questions about the topic.
Well, it was very nice experience because not only that we actually had chance to meet the students from the other country, but also that we had chance to exchange our knowledge about the telecommunication of current society. With the nice campus environment, we all got so excited and got closer each other.
They were pretty much like us, the young generation who has intensive interests in the field of telecommunication. It was one of the best experiences during the whole study abroad program.

I had never heard of the one-segment streaming until we heard this presentation. It was great to learn something new like that from people our own age, and also to exchange some of our technologies (youtube) and culture with them as well. They seemed to be just as interested in learning these things as we were.
Good job G Mike!

I was aware of 1seg
before the presentation (what a ready for telecomm. grad student I am) and I bought a Japanese version PSP and a 1seg tuner for it on 5th. (I arrived a day earlier and invested about $300 for this damn!!) to see what it looks like. I don’t believe in books when it comes to practical studies, I believe in what I have experienced. It is very sorry to say but I have to say it was just a piece of shit. (I said sorry!) it was not available in subways (I assume people strongly demand to see 1seg in subway), picture quality was far from HD, channel was limited. Even Korean DMB business with a lot better services is struggling looking for new sources of revenue and no wonder why Japan’s 1seg is not popular. (I do not accept any comments from anybody who just learned 1seg w/o investing $300 for this)
